Privacy Policy

Chilangette is an independent editorial publication about Mexico City. This policy explains what information we collect across the newsletter, the Chilangette Quiz, the Chilangette Passport™ and the contributor programme, and how you can access or delete it.

When you join The Chilangette List we collect your first name, email address, optional phone number, current city and your stated relationship to Mexico City, along with the page you signed up from. We use this to send editorial emails and city recommendations. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.

Taking the quiz stores your answers, a quiz session record and an anonymous session identifier so you can return to your result. From those answers we calculate and store your primary and secondary archetype, your archetype axis, and, scored independently, your primary and secondary Mexico City neighborhood matches and any neighborhoods you excluded. If you give us an email address to unlock your result, that result is linked to it.

Opening a Passport requires a separate, explicit personalization consent. Newsletter consent does not create a Passport and does not enable personalization.

With that consent we store: your Passport profile (archetypes, neighborhood matches, quiz-inferred interests), the preferences you set yourself (neighborhoods, categories, interests, budget, languages, accessibility needs), the items you save, the items you dismiss, and recommendation events such as impressions, views and clicks. These records power your recommendations and nothing else. Preferences you set yourself always take priority over anything inferred from the quiz.

You can withdraw personalization consent at any time from your Passport preferences. Withdrawing consent deletes your Passport profile, saves, dismissals and recommendation events.

Member and contributor accounts are created with a sign-in link sent to your email address. We store your email address, account identifier and sign-in timestamps. We do not store passwords.

If you contribute, we store your contributor profile, your drafts and submissions, and any editorial correspondence attached to them. Contributor consent is separate from newsletter and personalization consent. Contributor profiles are published only when you and an editor both approve publication.

We use third-party providers to operate the site: managed cloud hosting and database services, and an email delivery provider for newsletters and sign-in links. These providers process data on our instructions. We do not sell your data or share it for third-party advertising.

We use only the cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in, remember your quiz session and operate the site. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.

We keep newsletter records until you unsubscribe and ask us to remove them, quiz records until you ask us to delete them, and Passport records until you withdraw consent or delete your Passport. Deleting your Passport removes your profile, saves, dismissals and recommendation events immediately.

To access, correct, export or delete your information, email hello@chilangette.com. We respond to requests from the email address on the record.

We will update the effective date above when this policy changes materially. This policy describes our current practices and is not legal advice; it is pending final review by counsel.
